The Challenge
Merging Medical Practice With Approachable Design
Creating a logo for a pediatric neurology clinic meant finding the right balance between professionalism and compassion. Brain Waves Child Neurology and Epilepsy had a vision for the brand but needed help turning scattered ideas into a clear, memorable identity that would connect with both children and their families.
-
Defining a Clear Direction
The client shared multiple reference styles, from playful children's logos to abstract medical symbols, making it challenging to establish one cohesive visual identity.
-
Balancing Care & Expertise
The logo needed to communicate medical credibility while feeling warm, welcoming, and reassuring rather than cold or overly clinical.
-
Bringing Ideas Together
The client wanted to incorporate meaningful elements like a brain illustration or EEG lines, along with a bright color palette of blue, green, turquoise, and purple, without making the design feel cluttered or overly complex.
Design Concepts
From 4 Raw Ideas To One Refined Identity
Initially, we delivered four concepts to Brain Waves. Each explored different ways to combine pediatric care with neuroscience. The client liked two of the concepts and asked for refinements, including a curly-haired silhouette, more purple in the design, and a more defined brain illustration.
After refining the concepts, the client chose the updated version of one of the logos. The curly-haired silhouette and vibrant colors perfectly captured the practice's child-friendly approach while still communicating neurological expertise.
The System: Creating Emotional Resonance Through Color and Typography
Color Palette
The overall color scheme of Brain Waves combines navy blue, green, turquoise, and purple. The palette balances trust and expertise with warmth and compassion, striking the right visual balance. The vibrant colors help make Brain Waves appear child-friendly while reflecting the positivity and hope behind pediatric care.
Typography
We've used bold, modern sans-serif typography to convey professionalism and reliability to both children and parents. The rounded forms add a slight touch of friendliness and approachability. The typography makes Brain Waves feel more credible and comforting.

The Outcome
From A Vague Idea to Finished Brand Icon
The final logo concept combines the curly-haired child silhouette, an illustrated brain, and EEG-inspired line elements. The logo creates a unique identity for Brain Waves that communicates the practice's specialty while maintaining the playful, child-friendly feel. The color palette differentiates Brain Waves from other traditional medical practices and creates a positive experience for both children and parents right from the start.
"I gave the team a few pointers on what design elements I wanted the logo to include and the color palette I preferred. The initial concepts were delivered on the promised date. I liked all of them, but I was particularly drawn to two. After a few revisions, I chose one of the logos, and I’m happy with the whole execution. It’s like they read my mind!"
